What are the activities done in winter season ?
If you fear cold and snow, and you feel lazy to do Outdoor Activities, you probably ask this great question :How can I enjoy winter indoors?
During the winter months, you may spend more time indoors with your family. This is a great time to try out new hobbies, games and crafts. Below are some fun indoor activities you can try:
Making Crafts
Explore your own creativity and experience the satisfaction of creating something with your own hands. If you have kids, try these crafts.
Paper Snowflakes:
You can hang these in your windows to add some winter magic to your home. All you need is a piece of white paper, a pen and scissors.
Snowman Craft:
If it's too cold to make a snowman outside, make a paper or string snowman instead. Here is a paper snowman, and here is a thread snowman.
Knit or Crochet
Make yourself a comfy scarf, hat, and more (great for Canadian winters!) To knit, you need yarn and needles. STASH is the best place in Calgary to pick up knitting supplies. Click here for a knitting video for beginners. Decorate your holiday jumper:
Wearing a silly, over-the-top holiday sweater is a fun winter tradition.Use an old sweater or buy a cheap one from a thrift store (such as Goodwill or Value Village) and decorate it with felt, glitter glue, and buttons. .
Puzzles
Play a Board Game (or card game)
Here are some beginner games to get you started:
Connect Four (2 players)
Jenga (for 2-4 players)
Find it (2-8 players)
Go Fish (card game, for 2-5 players)
Slapjack (card game, for 2-4 players)
Place a Bird Feeder In Your Garden
Many animals migrate or hibernate during the cold winter months, and Calgary has many winter birds. If you love wildlife, this is the perfect way to enjoy them from the comfort of your own home. Common winter birds are titmouses, nuthatches, sparrows and housefinches.
Be sure to choose a resproof feeder (brom brand feeders work well). You can purchase bird seeds from Canadian Tire or your local pet store.
Visit The Indoor Garden
Do you miss the green of living plants? In Calgary, plants grow indoors during winter.
The Devonian Gardens in downtown Calgary are full of plants and are free to visit. In addition to the gardens, there is a children's playground, a koi pond, and occasional art exhibitions and concerts.
Warm and humid year-round, the Calgary Zoo Conservatory is home to a variety of fruit trees and flowering plants (and butterflies in summer!). To enter the conservatory, you must pay a zoo entry fee or hold a zoo membership.
